Mr. Leroy Alton Henderson, 88, of Dunn, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, at The Carrolton of Dunn. He was born on April 1, 1936, to the late Roscoe Henderson and Ruth Moss Taylor in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He moved to Philadelphia and was married to his wife Sandra Henderson for 54 years. The happy couple moved to Dunn, North Carolina, in July 2019.


Leroy was a graduate of John J. Wright Consolidated School and worked as a Process Section Chief/Manager at the Social Security Administration-Office of Personnel Management (OPM). When he wasn’t caring for his employees, you could find him rounding the bases on one of the many company softball teams. He happily retired in 1995 after over 30 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife nationally and internationally. Some of their favorite destinations included

Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, and New England states. Leroy was also active in his community. He volunteered at the Dunn Senior Enrichment Center and was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.


Mr. Henderson is survived by his daughter, Joy Henderson of Fuquay Varina. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Henderson (and wife Winnie), sisters, Geneva Corprew and Lillian (Loretta) Porter, brothers-in-law Harry Mitchell Jr. (and wife Josie) and Bernard (Gene) Harvey. As well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.


The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and Dunn Senior Enrichment Center, 640 E. Johnson Street, Dunn, NC 28334.


The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 3:00 PM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 201 Denim Drive, Erwin, NC 28339. Skinner & Smith Funeral Home staff will not be involved in the service.
